I have been active in the civic life of
this community for more than 30 years. I have
served as pro bono counsel to numerous neighborhood
organizations, both long established and those
formed to confront a specific problem. I represented
Citizens for the Preservation of Windsor Terrace
in their landmark victory stopping high-rise constrution
alongside Prospect Park and former Council Member
McCabe in her successful battle to stop the construction
of a sludge transfer facility on the nearby Sunset
Park waterfront. It is because of my proven record
as a civic leader that I have been endorsed by
Assembly Members Jim Brennan, Felix Ortiz, Adele
Cohen, and Bill Colton, State Senator Marty Markowitz,
Congressman Major Owens, former Assemblyman Joe
Ferris, former Council Members Sal Albanese and
Joan McCabe, and District 15 School Board President
Mark Peters.
The 39th CD contains prosperous and established
neighborhoods and communities challenged by gentrification
or the influx of thousands of new immigrants.
Schools are overcrowded and classes are too large.
Government services are stretched to the breaking
point. Senior citizens and middle class families
are being forced out of their homes by ever escalating
rents, utility bills and housing prices. I will
be a full time Council Member and work tirelessly,
as I have as a civic activist, to provide additional
resources for education, to find a way to build
affordable housing and to improve the delivery
of basic city services which affect the quality
of our lives. Volunteers should call (718) 499-4860
or (718) 499-9611.
